Oyster Shots

So you want to be a little different and do some oyster shots? Well, just know you're not so different. A lot of people like them and a lot of restuarants have them for sale. One place that I especially enjoyed them at is BlowFish. It's located at Santana Row in Northern California. In order to make your own oyster shots, so you can enjoy them in the comfort of own your home, get these ingredients and come on back:

  • some fresh oysters
  • ponzu sauce [i used kikkoman sauce - it's a citrus-y soy sauce]
  • lemon juice [real lemons]
  • tobascco sauce
  • green onions
some people use vodka and eggs as well... and you can also.

Once you have these items, you have to grab some small cups that can serve as shot glasses. Normal shot glasses are a little too small to house the oyster and what not to be really functional. Next, chop the green onions so that you can swallow them easily. Then, place an oyster in each glass. Add enough ponzu sauce to cover the oyster and about half that of the lemon juice. Then add about 2-4 drops of tabascco sauce. Lastly, sprinkle in some green onions. Chill this for a couple minutes and then serve. I placed them in a bowl of ice and that should be fine.

When making these, I suggest making a trial one for yourself and seeing how it tastes, if it tastes too spicy, don't add as much tobascco the next time around. If you don't like the taste of the oyster, mask it with more ponzu & lemon juice. It's simple and fast. Enjoy!
