  New York 02.2004 - Vacation!

02.21.2004 Saturday

Of course, anyone who goes to sleep at 5am without getting any sleep the night before is not going to wake up until 5pm. Then why is it that housekeeping needs to call every hour to see if we were awake and out of the room so they could clean it? Do you not see the do not disturb sign on the door handle? Well, that said, everyone else woke up around 3pm and got something to eat at some restaurant featured in Sex in the City. When Ruth and I woke up, we went to Kiku which was down the street and enjoyed some grade-A Japanese food. Very fresh and tasty. Just awesome. I recommend it to anyone staying at the New York Hilton or in the area. A very quaint and cute place with a very clean atmosphere. Great for a quick bite or lunch.

Then after lagging for a long  time, we all decided to walk  around Time's Square before  dinner. We walked and took  some more pictures. We hit up  the Rockefeller center, the  Hershey's store, and the  humungous Toys R Us. By   then, it was getting close to  dinner and we didn't want to be  late like yesterday.

We took a taxi to the Post House and waited about 5 minutes before Mike & Jae [who had slept till that point] to get there. Then we got seated and within 5 more minutes, Frances met us. To start, we ordered two bottles of wine, a Artesea 99 Cab and a Mondavi Merlot. The Cabernet was awesome. I don't know if I can really say the same for the Merlot, but it was definitely not bad. The waiter took our orders and we were set. After what seemed like an eternity, our food came out and we dug in. Since the side dishes were family-style, we ordered the onion rings, mushroom caps, fried zucchinis, and hash browns. Upon Mike's brother's recommendation, most of the guys ordered the Cajun Rib Eye, or let me clarify, all of the guys that Mike told, ordered the cajun style rib eye [bastard].

But yes, I digress. The food was great. Well worth the price. And I'm sure it was especially worth it to Kevin, who like a fool, ordered it well-done. His was burnt so we had to ask them to make it medium for him. He didn't want to have it taken back. But once he got the new steak, he loved it even though he was as stuffed as a pig.

And of course, what would an expensive dinner be without the credit card game. Our crew, some things never change. Here's the set up. Woo refused to play because he stated harshly that we were all immature and without class. Lou refused since he had no flow on him, as did I. So that left Jae, Mike, and Kevin. Before the meal, Kevin grabbed everyone's credit cards and shuffled them under the table. In secret, he handed a card back to the other two. I was to pick two people to eliminate. The cards that the holders had were eliminated and the remaining one had to pay. I first picked Mike. He showed his card and had his own. Relieved, he let out a big sigh and had a huge smile from ear to ear. The tesion rose with Kevin and Jae eagerly waiting the outcome. I picked Jae and he revealed his own card. Kevin let out a groan of disappointment while Jae made his goofy grin. With this discovery, Mike ordered up a soda and an appetizer [which I jacked a piece of]. All I can say is that it was one expensive meal for Mr. Kim. Being that the price of a steak was at the very least 40 bux and because of the side dishes / wine / tax / tip we had to add 35 dollars on top of the food cost, it was pretty expensive.

After dinner, we decided we'd chill and walk back to the hotel. You know, good for digestion and nice to see some sights. On our way back, we stopped off at the Plaza hotel to pick up some cigars since some of the guys thought they were high claaaaaass. Then we hit up the World of Nuts & Ice Cream for some candy and cold stuff. It was a good end to a nice stroll home. We relaxed for a bit and dropped off some luggage.

We then took some taxi's to Trust and went drinking there. It wasn't really our type of deal so we took off after a bit. Woo's friends picked us up and we took us to Scores to enjoy a few lap dances. Let me just say it was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. It has a huge reputation but c'mon. And plus, there was tip after tip after tip which was ridiculous. The girls there were OK... But the best part was that Ruth got her first lap dance there... heh heh heh.

After being disappointed with the whole stripees, we hit up the local store, picked up some drinks and ones and went back to the hotel to gamble gamble gamble. Sadly, Jae lost all dignity at this point. He had to buy a few bucks by doing stupid pet tricks with kevin. And also sleeping with someone since there would be one bed with two ppl and one solo. While the boys gambled it up, Ruth, Frances, and myself soaked our sore feets in hot water and chatted for a bit. Then we ate some of our leftovers, watched Serendipity and fell asleep.
